Rome Mysteries & Legends Free Tour
Rome Mysteries & Legends Free Tour
Murderers, atheists, prostitutes... The most despised Roman population in the Middle Ages was buried, forgotten and evicted in the so-called "cursed cemetery". The remains of this ancient cemetery are located in Piazzale Flaminio, just a few steps from Piazza del Popolo: The starting point of our free tour of mysteries and legends of Rome.
They say that in the evening around Flaminio and Pópolo districts... We're sorry, but we dare not put it in writing! You'll have to meet at the scheduled time to embark on this free guided tour through the mysteries of Rome to find out! Next to these squares is the church of Santa Maria del Popolo, where we'll discover the enigmas hidden in the works of two masters of the Baroque: the painter Caravaggio and the sculptor Bernini.
We'll continue our free tour along Via del Corso, where we'll learn about some rather tantalising tales about Pope Paul II. The route continues along Via di Ripetta, where again the story of a pope emerges: in this case Leo X, we'll learn about the new tax on prostitution that transformed the city...
Women who offered their bodies in exchange for money became very popular in Rome. So much so that Caravaggio used the image of a prostitute to paint the face of a virgin! You don't believe us? We'll uncover this mystery in the church of Sant'Agostino, located next to the famous Biblioteca Angelica.
After 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes spent exploring Rome, we'll finish out tour on the Sant'Angelo Bridge.
