On this visit to a Wayuu farm, we'll learn about the culture and traditions of these indigenous people from the Colombian region of La Guajira - it'll be amazing!
Wayuu Farm Tour
At the scheduled time we'll gather at the selected meeting point in Riohacha and head to one of the ranches in La Guajira to meet the Wayuu people.
The Wayuu are indigenous people native to Colombia and Venezuela. This matriarchal society lives in different rancherias or farms along the peninsula of La Guajira. They're known for being very friendly and welcoming people – they'll be happy to show you how their community lives, and how they are mainly focused on their livestock and handicrafts.
After a 45-minute drive, we'll arrive at the Jipialu farm, where we'll have the chance to meet their people, and discover their culture and their way of life. You can take advantage of this visit to admire their traditional handicrafts, among which are the chinchorros, which are like hammocks, and the hand-woven backpacks and bags. It'll also be a perfect opportunity to pick up some unique souvenirs.
We'll round off this experience with a tasting of a traditional Wayuu dish, which could be a bun or a stuffed arepa. This tasty delicacy is made with fried goat meat cooked over firewood.
The visit to the Wayuu ranch will end and we'll arrive back at the starting point in Riohacha four and a half hours after pickup.
