Riobamba, Guano & Pucará Tambo Tour
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Riobamba and take you to the historic centre for a walking tour. Let's explore the railway capital of Ecuador!
To begin, we'll head to the city's viewpoint to admire the incredible views of the surroundings and the Chimborazo Volcano. Afterwards, we'll continue to St. Peter Cathedral to see its blended architectural styles and baroque façade. We'll then head to the Merced Market, where we'll witness the comings and goings of the locals and learn about typical dishes such as the hornado de Riobamba.
Next, we'll visit the Museum of the Mummy of Guano to see the showcase where, according to different studies, the mummified body of the missionary Fray Lázaro de Santofimia can be found. And, if we're lucky, we'll even be able to see the last ice maker of Chimborazo, Baltazar Ushca.
Afterwards, we'll approach Balbanera church, located right in front of the lake and built by the indigenous people and the Spaniards in 1534. Are you hungry? We'll stop at the restaurant of the Pucará Tambo Tourist Centre for a delicious lunch.
With our batteries recharged, we'll tour this tourist centre, from where we'll have unforgettable panoramic views of Riobamba. Pucará Tambo is located in the rural parish of Cacha and can boast of maintaining the traditional practice of making ponchos and other typical textiles of the area. You'll learn in detail the customs and traditions of its inhabitants!
We'll then take you back to your hotel in Riobamba and finish the tour after 9 hours.
