Quilotoa Lagoon Day Trip
Quilotoa Lagoon Day Trip
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Riobamba and set off for the Quilotoa Lagoon.
On the way there, we'll stop in the village of Zumbahua in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes. When we get there we'll see the canyon of the Toachi River, which was created by the flows of the Quilotoa Volcano. We'll also stop in Tigua to see the masks made by the local Indigenous communities.
Afterwards, we'll travel to the Quilotoa Lagoon. This lake spans a diameter of 8 miles (13 kilometres) and is located inside a crater. Did you know that it was formed 800 years ago when the volcanic cone collapsed?
We'll head to the edge of the caldera and start a 1-hour kayak tour through the Quilotoa Lagoon's multicoloured water. While we're here, we might even spot some deer or rabbits among the Andean flora!
Next, we'll head to the village of Quilotoa to share a traditional lunch with corn and beans. Once you've had something to eat, you'll have 1 hour of free time to see some of the area's craftsmanship.
It'll then be time to take you back to Riobamba, where you'll be dropped off back at your hotel at 7 pm.
