Day Trip to Tambohuasha
Day Trip to Tambohuasha
Between 6 and 7 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Riobamba and set off to Tambohuasha, a village nestled in the foothills of the Chimborazo volcano.
There we'll greet the local population and their alpaca herds. We'll learn all about these fluffy animals, like how they eat and about their domestication by the Incas. We'll also learn all about the processing of their wool, one of the softest and finest in the animal kingdom.
Afterwards, we'll have a delicious breakfast consisting of porridge, bread, juice or herbal tea, and free-range eggs. Then we'll attend a workshop that will teach us all about dyeing, spinning, and tailoring garments made with alpaca fibers. This ancient tradition is a symbol of the Ecuadorian Andes.
Time for lunch! We'll enjoy a delicious quinoa soup, a meat dish with rice and potatoes accompanied by herbal tea or fresh juice. Finally, we'll visit the village's handicraft center to admire the finished wool garments and marvel at their bright colors.
Finally, we'll head back to your hotel in Riobamba, where we'll arrive between 5 and 6 pm.
