Urca and Sugarloaf Mountain Free Tour
Description
At the appointed time we'll meet in front of the Earth Science Museum of Rio de Janeiro and start a free tour that'll take us to the Urca neighbourhood and the Sugarloaf Mountain.
To begin our experience, we'll discuss the history of this geology and palaeontology museum - one of the most famous museums in the city, and one of the largest of its kind in Latin America.
We'll continue our tour by visiting the Quadrado da Urca, the first Olympic swimming pool in Brazil, as well as the Mureta da Urca an area filled with history and from which we'll get excellent views of the river.
During our tour, we'll also stop at the Cassino da Urca - a magnificent building that housed a casino during the 1930s and 1940s, until the act of gambling was banned in Brazil in 1946. To complete our tour of Urca, we'll then pay a visit to Vermelha Beach and the beginning of the Pista Cláudio Coutinho walking trail.
This trail marks the beginning of the hiking route to the famous Sugarloaf Mountain. For 1 kilometre (0.6 miles), we'll walk along the so-called Morro da Urca trail until we arrive at the viewpoint. The route, which is of moderate difficulty, will take us to the first hill of the Sugarloaf complex, from where we'll get unbeatable panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro.
Finally, we'll return to the start of the trail and end the free tour after 2.5 hours of activity.
