Art Nouveau Riga: Free Walking Tour
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet in Bastejkalnspara Park to start this free tour of Latvia's Art Nouveau, an artistic period that left its mark on the city in the early 20th century. To do so, we'll admire the facade of the building in front of us, the most important theater in Riga. Did you know that it had to be rebuilt after a fire?
Next, we'll take a leisurely stroll down Elizabetes Street, the ultimate Art Nouveau hotspot. We'll see a vibrant array of buildings, including the famous one at number 10. What treasures lie within? Prepare to be dazzled by its decorative wonders, featuring magnificent masks and majestic peacocks!
As our adventure continues, we'll venture into Alberta Street, affectionately known as "the embassy district." Keep your eyes peeled for more Art Nouveau gems crafted by the talented Russian architect, Mikhail Eisenstein. He had a knack for infusing romantic nationalism into his designs, resulting in architectural masterpieces that will leave you in awe.
Finally, our delightful tour will draw to a close after 2 to 2.25 hours, right in front of the Art Nouveau Museum on Alberta Street.
