With this ticket to the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, you'll learn about the most significant monument of the island's medieval history.
Why Visit the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes?
The Grand Master's Palace is a historical testimony to the medieval period and the influence of the Knights of St. John on Rhodes. If you're visiting the island, this spectacular architectural gem is a must-see.
The building was constructed at the end of the 7th century and transformed into a grand palace in the early 14th century to serve as the seat and residence of the Grand Master, who ruled Rhodes until the arrival of the Ottomans in 1522. The concept of the palace was that of a fortress inside a castle, which in turn would act as a defence at the highest point of the city.
With this ticket, you'll tour its halls decorated with mosaics, frescoes and period furniture. Among the most outstanding rooms are the reception rooms, the knights' quarters and a large courtyard, all of which were restored in the 1930s. The palace is also a museum housing collections of artefacts, weapons and works of art.
