Tour Description

Ready for an unforgettable adventure through Iceland's dramatic volcanic landscape? We'll begin by picking you up from your hotel in Reykjavík at the indicated time, where we'll hop aboard our bus and set off on this volcanic adventure.

As we drive to our first destination, it will become clear to you why the Reykjanes Peninsula is a haven for geological enthusiasts! Our first stop will be at Lake Kleifarvatn, where we'll admire black basalt beaches surrounded by otherworldly rock formations sculpted by ancient volcanic activity. Then, we'll head to the Seltún Geothermal Area, where we'll find bubbling mud pools and natural hot springs.

Afterward, it's time for the highlight of the day—a hike to the latest volcanic eruption site in Geldingadalur Valley. First erupting in 2021, Fagradalsfjall Volcano continues to captivate visitors with its vast lava fields and newly formed volcanic landscape. Our hike will take us through this rugged terrain, offering views of the rapidly cooling lava from recent eruptions, including Litli-Hrút in 2023. This hike can take up to 2 hours each way, but the stunning views are well worth the effort!

After our volcano hike, we'll visit the Gunnuhver Hot Springs, a place steeped in both geological and mythical significance. As steam rises from the earth and the largest mud pool in Iceland bubbles away, we'll hear the eerie tale of Gúðrun, a ghost said to haunt this volatile landscape. Did you know that the geothermal energy of this region powers much of the local area? This unique location will give us fascinating insights into Iceland's use of renewable energy.

Next, we'll head to Reykjanesviti Lighthouse, perched on a hill with stunning views of the North Atlantic coast. This historic lighthouse has been a guiding light for ships since the early 20th century. Here, we'll be able to admire the coast, with dramatic sea cliffs and Valhnúkamöl boulder ridge, home to a variety of seabirds. Don't forget to snap a picture!

Our final stop is the iconic Bridge between Continents, where you can literally walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates! This 15-metre (49-foot) footbridge spans a rift in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience to stand between two continents as they slowly drift apart.

Finally, after a total of 10 hours, we'll arrive back in Reykjavík and drop you off at your hotel.
