Travel back in time with this excursion to Heraklion. You'll learn about the history of the Minoans at the Palace of Knossos & the Archaeological Museum. A must for any visit to Crete!
Heraklion Day Trip + Knossos
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Rethymno and hit the road to Heraklion, stopping for a quick breakfast on the way. Around 10:30 am, we'll reach the capital of Crete, the cradle of the oldest civilization in Europe.
Upon arrival, we'll approach one of the most emblematic places of this Cretan town, the archaeological complex of Knossos, where we'll go on a guided tour. We'll visit the palace, one of the most important of the Minoan civilization and the former seat of the legendary King Minos. As we explore the ruins, we'll learn about famous legends like that of the Labyrinth or the story of Daedalus and Icarus. It'll be like traveling back in time!
Continuing to delve into the exciting history of Heraklion, we'll make our way to the Archaeological Museum. In addition to exploring an impressive building on a guided tour, we'll find unique remnants of the Minoan culture, such as the sarcophagus of Agia Triada, the fresco of the Minotaur, or the fresco of the Prince of the Lilies.
At around 1:30 pm, we'll leave the museum and you'll have two hours of free time to continue exploring Heraklion. Afterward, we'll regroup and start our return trip to Rethymno, where we're scheduled to arrive at 6:30 pm.
