Arkadi Monastery, Margarites & Melidoni Cave Tour
After picking you up from your hotel in Rethymno between 7 am and 8 am, we'll drive to the Arkadi Monastery, one of the most charming places in Crete.
There you'll have an hour of free time to explore the monastery at your leisure and admire its architectural beauty. We recommend visiting its museum to learn about its history through the fascinating Ottoman relics and icons exhibited there. Discover what happened in the monastery in 1866 and under Venetian rule!
From Arkadi, we'll head to Margarites, a small and beautiful village known for its traditional pottery. We'll enter a workshop where an expert craftsman will show us how the most typical local products are made. Before we leave Margarites, you'll have half an hour of free time to get lunch in a local restaurant.
The next stop on our tour will be a small oil factory, where we'll learn about one of Crete's star products. We'll discover how the process of producing oil has evolved over the centuries and the secrets that make Crete's olive oil so tasty.
Finally, we'll visit Melidoni Cave, located at an altitude of more than 220 metres. Inside, you'll be amazed by the stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over time. Did you know that the cave has been used for religious ceremonies and as a shelter during war?
We'll end the tour by returning to your hotel in Rethymno between 5 pm and 6 pm.
