On this day trip to Olinda and Ricardo Brennand Institute, we'll explore the main attractions of this city famous for its Carnival dolls.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Recife to start this day trip to Olinda, where we'll also visit one of the best museums in Latin America, the Ricardo Brennand Institute. Shall we go?
Once in Olinda, a city founded by the Portuguese in 1535, our first stop will be the Convent of São Francisco, a temple whose construction began in 1585. Did you know that this place boasts the biggest collection of Portuguese tiles in the state?
We'll continue to Alto da Sé, from where we'll have an incredible panoramic view of the city. Afterwards, we'll take a walk to discover the most important attractions of Olinda. Then, we'll see the Cathedral, Misericórdia Church and the Slope of Mercy, the monastery of São Bento, the Ribeira Market, the Casa de Artesanatos and, of course, the Bonecos de Olinda, the popular Pernambuco carnival dolls.
Next, we'll get back in the vehicle and drive to Carmo Church, which is the oldest Carmelite Order temple in Brazil. We'll then drive back up to Alto da Sé, where we'll stop and give you time to go and get lunch.
Once we've had lunch, we'll head to the Ricardo Brennand Institute, a complex consisting of the São João Castle-Museum, an art gallery, an auditorium, the Sculpture Garden, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Graças and a restaurant.
This museum houses the world's largest collection of the Dutch artist Frans Post, as well as an impressive exhibition of bladed weapons, with more than 3,000 pieces. Among them are 27 complete medieval suits of armour, which are a real eye-catcher!
After a 2-hour visit to the institute, we'll return to Recife. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 7.5 hours after pickup.
