Gilberto Freyre Foundation
At the time indicated, we'll meet at the Gilberto Freyre Foundation to start exploring the old home of this famous Brazilian writer and sociologist.
Gilberto de Mello Freyre lived in this house for over 40 years, although the building dates back to the 19th century when it was known as the Villa Santo Antonio de Apipucos.
Today it has been converted into a house-museum. It's home to numerous objects that belonged to the author of The Master and the Slaves. We'll even explain to what extent this book has influenced Brazilian society as we explore the different rooms of the mansion and its gardens. Did you know that it's home to more than 100 native species?
We'll discover the author's passions and tastes as we admire the decorations in the house, which include catholic images, African pieces, English silverware, eastern pottery and of course, Portuguese tiles.
After a 50-minute to 1-hour tour, we'll end this guided visit around the Gilberto Freyre Foundation.
