Gardens of La Granja Royal Palace Free Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet up at the indicated meeting point in San Ildefonso before heading to the beautiful gardens of the Royal Palace of La Granja.
As we shall see, the fountains in the gardens of La Granja are a veritable open-air museum on the history of mythology. We will first stroll down the elegant La Alameda boulevard and across the Patio de la Herradura towards the fountain of Andromeda. There, we will reveal the story of that fascinating myth, which features famous characters such as Perseus, Medusa, and Minerva.
The free tour continues through the Bosquete del Nocturnal woods until we reach the beautiful La Selva fountain, where we will tell you the story of its main characters: Pomona and Vertumnus. The next stop will be in front of the fountain of Apollo, another essential character of classical mythology.
The route will continue in front of the fountains of Neptune and the New Waterfall, which are one of the most famous images in the gardens of La Granja. From there we will take a walk to the fountain of the Baths of Diana, whose statues represent the myth of Acteon and the goddess of hunting. It is also one of the most beautiful sculptures in the gardens.
Between the fountains, we will also tell you about some of the pastimes that the kings used to play in the gardens of La Granja, such as the game of Mallo. Felipe V, the first Spanish monarch of the House of Bourbon, was a great fan.
Finally, after a two-hour tour, we will conclude the free tour in front of the fountain of Fame, where we will see how this deity defeats evil Ignorance and Envy.
