Ravenna Private Tour
Ravenna Private Tour
At a time of your choosing, we will meet up outside the Basilica of St. Apollinaris to begin a walking tour of the main monuments of the imperial city of Ravenna. Along the way, we will discover up to eight magnificent buildings officially recognized as World Heritage!
We will first enter the temple of St Apolinar, built in 505 by order of King Theodoric the Great. As we admire the beautiful mosaics inside, you will hear all about the different historical periods that Ravenna has gone through, including the Romans, Byzantines, and Visigoths.
Afterward, we will walk to the so-called 'Dantesque area', where the mortal remains of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri are located. We will observe the façade of the neoclassical building in which the author of the Divine Comedy rests and we will follow the route towards the Neonian baptistery. Inside, we will discover the beautiful mosaic of Saint John the Baptist baptizing Jesus, which stands out for its striking blue and gold tones.
After this visit, we will walk around Piazza del Popolo square, see Palazzo Rasponi square and arrive at the Basilica of San Vital. The building, which dates back to the 6th century, has one of the best examples of Byzantine art mosaics. It is not in vain that Ravenna is known as the city of mosaics. There, you will find the mausoleum of Gala Placidia.
After a wonderful two-hour private tour, we will end the activity outside the mausoleum or at any other central point you wish.
