Racalmuto Food Tour & Sciascia House Visit

At your chosen time, we'll meet in Piazza Umberto I to set off on our food tour of Racamulto. We'll follow in the footsteps of Leonardo Sciascia, Racalmuto's most illustrious figure.

As we wander through the streets of Racamulto, we'll observe its main monuments, such as the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte. This church dates back to 1738 and is located on the highest hill of the ancient medieval village. Near this place of worship, we'll find the Leonardo Sciascia Museum House and head inside so you can see the furniture and personal belongings of this writer.

"All my books have not only been written in that place, but it is as if they are connected to it. To the landscape, the people, the memories, the feelings". This is how Sciascia described his relationship with Racalmuto, the town where he was born but also the place where he set Le parrocchie di Regalpetra.

Following in the footsteps of the author of the crime novel Il giorno della civetta, we'll arrive at Racalmuto's main street, where there's a bronze statue of Sciascia, made by the sculptor Giuseppe Agnello. We'll visit the circle of sulphur miners and salt miners to learn more about the history of this mining area before coming to the historic Regina Margherita theatre. This beautiful building was constructed between 1870 and 1880 and testifies to the presence of a culturally active bourgeoisie, enriched by the development of the area's sulphur mines, in Racamulto.

We'll then go to a restaurant to see a cooking demonstration, in which we'll be shown how to make Sicilian nougat. You'll learn both theory and practice, as you'll also try some delicious nougat products.

Next, we'll enter a resort where we'll taste various types of olive oil. We'll be shown the unique characteristics of the olive trees in this area and the techniques for producing oil. Finally, we'll be served a light meal of cold meats, cheeses and typical local products.

After tasting the many delicacies of Racalmuto, we'll finish the guided tour of Sciascia's birthplace.
