On this tour of Quito we'll relive ancient ancestral customs linked to the Uku Pacha, the underworld of the dead in Inca mythology.

Uku Pacha Tour of Quito

At 9 am we'll meet at the Arco de la Reina, where this tour of Quito will begin.

We'll head first to the San Diego cemetery, where famous figures of the history of the Ecuadorian capital are laid to rest. We'll learn about their lives and walk through the galleries of the cemetery to see some of their mausoleums, considered authentic works of art

Whilst on our visit we'll also learn more about Inca mythology. We'll learn all about the fascinating Uku Pacha, the Underworld or world of the dead. Supay, the Inca god of death and leader of the demons, ruled there.

Afterwards, we'll see the exterior of the Hospicio San Lázaro and walk to the Museo de la Ciudad, a renowned cultural institution in Quito located in the former hospital of San Juan de Dios, a building declared a World Heritage Site. On our visit to the museum we'll uncover the history of one of the oldest hospices in South America.

Afterwards, we'll go to the San Ignacio restaurant, where we'll replenish our strength with a delicious lunch including a typical dish. After lunch, we'll visit the Alberto Mena y Caamaño Museum, where we'll learn about the massacre that took place after the First Cry of Independence. The route will continue to the San Francisco convent, one of the largest Franciscan architectural complexes on the American continent. Did you know that it's known as the Escorial of the New World?

After learning about the history of the convent, we'll visit the church of the Society of Jesus and from there we'll go to the Yumbos artisan chocolate shop, where we'll taste one of the most delicious chocolates in Ecuador.

We'll say goodbye at this last point at around 12 pm.
