Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Bulevar Naciones Unidas and head north to Mitad del Mundo, or 'Middle of the World', famous for the housing monument that marks the exact location of the equator, from which the country takes its name.
In the middle of an impressive natural landscape, the Equatorial Monument stands at latitude 0º0'0". Thanks to its pyramidal-quadrangular shape with four monoliths located on its corners, this obelisk marks the geographical orientation of the four cardinal points.
We'll see the Ethnographic Museum and the equinoctial line, which represents the imaginary line that divides the earth's hemispheres. With one foot on each side of this line, you'll be simultaneously in the northern and southern hemispheres—smack dab in the Middle of the World!
In this spectacular area, you'll have free time to try some of the local cuisine, such as yahuarlocro, a delicious potato-based soup, or get to know the ancestral dwellings that surround it.
Afterwards, we'll meet up again to begin the journey back to the starting point, where we'll arrive after 4 hours in total.
