Lauca 3-day Tour
Lauca 3-day Tour
Day 1
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Putre and drive to the caves located on the outskirts of the town. After a short walk near the caves, we'll go to the Chucuyo viewpoint to admire the beautiful landscapes of the Lauca National Park, whose lagoons and volcanoes extend over the Andean highlands of northern Chile.
The next stop will take place in the town of Parinacota, where we'll visit its church, declared a National Monument. Nearby are the famous Cotacotani Lagoons, which we'll admire from one of its main viewpoints. We'll also see Chungará Lake.
Then, we'll stop at the Chirigualla hot springs and go to Chivatambo to learn about the process of charqui (meat dehydration). Finally, we'll have dinner and lodge in a rural house in the village.
Day 2
After breakfast, we'll visit the vicuña reserve located south of Lauca. We'll also pass by the Lauca River and the Surire Salt Flats, one of the main deposits of sodium chloride in northern Chile.
Next, we'll see the flamingos that live at the foot of the Chinchilleni hill, and enjoy the landscapes of Chilcaya. We'll also stop at the Polloquere hot springs, located next to the salt flats.
We'll have a midday break for a picnic lunch and then we'll visit an ancient altiplano village called Guallatire. We'll conclude the day by heading to a rural lodge in Socoroma.
Day 3
After a hearty breakfast, we'll have a morning full of trekking along the Inca Trail and Phusiri Collo. From these trails, we'll go to Zapahuira to see its ancient Inca constructions, called tambos and colcas.
The route will continue to Copaquilla and Mallku, where we'll learn about the traditions of the locals. After learning about their customs, we'll continue to the Cardones Ravine, where we'll see the characteristic candelabro cactus.
