Day Trip to Altos de Chavón
We'll pick you up from your hotel at the designated time and take you to one of the most remarkable places in the Dominican Republic.
Our destination is Altos de Chavón, a stunning replica of a typical 16th-century Mediterranean village. But why was this Renaissance-inspired village constructed in 1976? There are various theories, with the most widespread legend stating that it was a birthday present from a businessman to his daughter.
Our visit will begin with breathtaking views from the Chavón River lookout point and the luxurious Casa de Campo resort, where many famous people, including Messi, Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt, Julio Iglesias, and Bill Clinton, have stayed.
Next, we'll continue our tour of Altos de Chavón by strolling down its cobblestone streets, admiring the Renaissance-inspired architecture like the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Amber and Larimar. We'll also pause in front of the San Estanislao church, and checking out an open-air theater inspired by Greek architecture. Plus, we'll also pass by the charming Traveso Fountain and the Altos de Chavón Art School building.
Throughout the tour, we'll reveal which movies and music videos have been filmed in Altos de Chavón, including Apocalypse Now, Rambo IV, and Jurassic Park. We'll also discover the music groups that have used this unique location as a backdrop.
