Lampa Day Trip
Lampa Day Trip
We'll pick you up at 8 am at your hotel in Puno to head north for a 2-hour drive to Lampa.
Right after arriving, we'll visit the Jesuit temple of Santiago Apostle, one of the symbols of the town. Inside we'll find Christian relics, such as a sculpture of the Virgin of Chiquinquira, a crucified Christ made of leather, the silver image of the Immaculate Conception, and the Pietà, a replica of the famous sculpture by Michelangelo that today decorates the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican.
We'll then access the atrium of the church, a rectangular space enclosed by 8 towers, and enter the ancient catacombs. We'll visit this impressive mausoleum and its funeral chamber or ossuary, where you'll be amazed by the skulls and bones that cover the walls ordered to the millimeter.
After the visit to the temple, we'll go out to walk through the streets of Lampa and marvel at its colonial buildings, such as the Casona Frisancho. We'll pass by the Municipality of Lampa, a beautiful building built in pink ashlar stone, and cross the Cal y Canto bridge, one of the most beautiful in the region until its recent collapse. Its construction was quite a challenge!
We'll make our way back to Puno, stopping at a local market where you'll have some free time for shopping. The best time to buy a nice souvenir for your trip!
Finally, we'll arrive in Puno and drop you off at your hotels at 3 pm.
