At 3 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Puno and start this excursion to the Gothic City of Macusani. Don't worry, the early start will be worth it!
We'll travel for 3.5 hours until we reach one of the highest points on the road, the Abra Oquepuño, which is located more than 4,500 meters above sea level. From here, we'll enjoy breathtaking views of the nature of the Macusani Valley. We'll also make a small traditional offering to the Pachamama!
Then, we'll head to the town of Macusani, where we'll have breakfast. Following breakfast, we'll visit the Kallahuaya Local Museum to learn all about the different cultures of the region.
Before leaving Macusani, we'll pass by the main square and admire the monument to San Martin, We'll learn about the monument's history and importance to the town. Then, we'll head to the Gothic City, which is located 4,815 meters above sea level.
Once there, we'll take a 2-hour hike to explore this peculiar forest of stones formed by imposing rocks that have been eroded by the wind. Some of the rocks even look like temples or castles!
Here in this amazing place, we'll have a picnic lunch. Afterwards, we'll hike back to the starting point and, to complete the day, we'll take you to the thermal baths of the enchanted lagoon. If you wish, you can enjoy a relaxing bath.
