Cutimbo Tour
Cutimbo Tour
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Puno at the selected time and take the Puno-Moquegua Interoceanic Highway towards Cutimbo, an archaeological complex located on two plateaus and crowned by ancient stone constructions.
Cutimbo was occupied for several centuries, not only by the Incas but also by other civilizations up to 8,000 years old, such as the Lupaca and the Qolla. Its strategic location may have been the reason why this place was so highly valued by these pre-Columbian cultures.
We'll tour the different buildings of Cutimbo, where we'll check out several chulpas, or funerary monuments, scattered throughout the plateau. The chulpas come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes, further evidence of the rich architectural heritage of the cultures that inhabited this area of Peru.
As we walk among the constructions and monuments, we'll notice that some of them feature enigmatic figures of animals such as monkeys, felines and snakes. We'll learn some of the theories experts have about them during the tour!
We will also see the ushno, a ceremonial temple built with volcanic rock located in the central part of the plateau, as well as the cremation altar where calcinated bones of humans and animals were found.
After this tour of the Cutimbo ruins, we'll return to Puno and drop you off at your hotel four to five hours after pickup.
