Why Visit the Pula Arena?
The Pula Arena is the best preserved Roman building in all of Croatia and one of the biggest amphitheatres in the world, with a surface area of over 11000 square metres (118403 square feet).
This spectacular venue was built between 27 BC and 81 AD, back in the time of Emperor Augustus. It was initially made of wood before it was extended and replaced by stone during the Flavian dynasty, under the Vespasian government. This period is more or less the same time as the Roman Colliseum.
The amphitheatre was built in a Tuscan style and is found on the slopes of a hill next to the sea. The shape of the amphitheatre is elliptical, with the longest axis measuring about 130 metres (426 feet) and the shortest about 100 metres (328 feet). This enormous and magnificent structure was assembled entirely using limestone. Did you know that it has a capacity of 5000 people? Presently, during the summer, it is used as a stage for festivals and shows.
With your ticket, you'll be transported to the past, specifically to the time of gladiator fights. You'll walk through the underground passages which were used by the combatants and access an exhibition of amphoras and other objects used in the olive oil production of Antiquity. You'll love it!

- May, June, and September: 8 am to 9 pm
- July and August: 8 am to 11 pm
- October: 9 am to 7 pm
- November to March: 9 am to 5 pm
