On this complete excursion through the Los Lagos region we'll tour the city of Maullín and enjoy bird watching in Quenuir Bajo, where we'll get to know the main migratory species of Chile!
Maullín Tour + Birdwatching in Quenuir Bajo
At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel and drive south towards Maullín. Once we arrive in Maullín, we'll have a tour of its main square and church.
We'll then attend a brief introductory talk about the wetlands of the commune WHSRN: the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network. After this presentation, we'll head to the Maullín pier to take a boat to Quenuir Bajo.
From the pier where we'll take a short walk to the wetland of Las Lajas. In this area of great biodiversity, where 53% of Chile's migratory birds are concentrated, we'll use binoculars and long-range telephoto lenses.
Depending on the weather conditions and the time of year, we'll see different species such as flamingos, coscoroba swans, imperial and rock cormorants, black-necked swans, curlews and pilpilens. Next to the Las Lajas wetland we'll also stop for a snack including a cereal bar, a sandwich and a drink, a choice of juice, tea or coffee.
After this snack, we'll continue our walk to another important wetland in the area: the Quenuir Lagoon. There we'll continue our bird watching tour, which will end at the restaurant La Picá del Flamenco. Here we'll have three delicious Chilean meat, cheese and seafood empanadas.
Once we have regained our strength, we'll walk to the pier to take the boat back to Maullín. From there we'll return by road to your hotel, where we'll arrive eleven hours after pickup.
