The island of Chiloé is one of the most spectacular spots in Chile. On our Chacao, Ancud & the Beaches of Chiloé Trip, we'll see its cities, the famous Puñihuil islets and maybe even some penguins!
Chacao, Ancud & the Beaches of Chiloé Trip
After collecting you from your hotel, we'll head to the village of Pargua. From there, we'll catch a ferry to the island of Chiloé. All aboard!
During the crossing, you will admire the wonderful landscapes surrounding the Chacao Channel and see some of the local wildlife including pelicans and sea lions. When we arrive at the island, we'll wander through the streets of Chacao and see its iconic houses and churches made of larch wood. You won't be surprised to learn that this place has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our route continues by visiting Caulín, a bay on the north coast of the island. We'll visit the Balneario de Caulín, a delightful stretch of beaches well-known for their oysters, pearl farms, and incredible marine wildlife.
Afterwards, we'll board a boat to go to the Puñihuil Islets, where we'll be able to spot both Magellanic and Humboldt penguins. Did you know that this is the only place in the world where these two species live side by side? We'll tell you about the lifestyle of these birds, the environment, and the abundance of food that makes these islets a paradise for penguins.
The next stage of the tour takes us to the city of Ancud, which was the capital of the island until 1982. We'll visit the Regional Museum and San Antonio Fort to learn all about the history of Chiloé, which remained loyal to the Spanish crown until the end of the Chilean War of Independence.
Later, you'll have 1 hour of free time to have lunch in Ancud at your leisure. The municipal market, with stalls of local products, offers numerous options for discovering local cuisine.
It'll then be time to take you back to your hotel, where we'll arrive 11 hours after our departure.
