Join us on a trekking route around Laguna Sofia, to explore the best the Chilean Patagonia has to offer. We'll also visit the Escondida and La Ventana cave paintings, unique in the Magallanes region.
Description
On the day of the activity, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Natales at 8:30 am and drive to the Laguna Sofia trailhead, where we'll arrive after a journey of approximately 90 minutes.
After a brief preparatory talk at the beginning of the hike, we'll set off on a trekking route through the Chilean Patagonia. On this 3.5-hour, 8-kilometre (4.9-mile) route of moderate intensity, we'll first head towards the so-called cave sector. We'll admire its curious geological formations and continue the route through a beautiful lenga forest.
In this second stage of the trekking route, we'll go to the lagoon's viewpoint: an ideal observation point to admire diverse native birds such as the Andean condors, whose majestic flight is a spectacle!
We'll replenish our strength with a light snack and a mate, and then we'll continue our walk along the area's rocky walls. Here we'll see an outstanding collection of cave paintings, unique in the Chilean region of Magallanes. The route will continue with a visit to the La Ventana and Escondida caves, where we'll appreciate their millenary stalactites and stalagmites and we'll see various traces of extinct fauna.
We'll make a last stop in the Los Aleros Dos Herraduras sector, and after contemplating its beautiful Patagonian landscapes, we'll return to the beginning of the trail. From there we'll finally return to your hotel in Puerto Natales, where we'll arrive at 1:30 pm.
