Chiloé Day Trip: Quemchi, Dalcahue & Castro
We'll pick you up from your downtown Puerto Montt hotel. From there, we'll enjoy a scenic hour-long drive to the town of Pargua. Once we arrive at the port, we'll board a ferry and set sail across the Chacao Channel. Get ready to discover the charms of Chiloé Island!
During the crossing, we'll observe sea lions, pelicans, and other typical marine fauna of the Los Lagos region. Did you know that this channel is the natural formation that separates the continent from the island of Chiloé? After about 30 minutes of cruising, we'll arrive at the port of Chacao and begin a brief stroll through town, where its picturesque church and main square stand out, before continuing our tour to the next stop.
Welcome to Quemchi! Francisco Coloane, the renowned writer, famously named its beach, the Costanera, the "Commune of 1000 Landscapes." As we pass by, you'll see why. Next, we’ll cross a 430-meter (1,410-foot) bridge to reach Aucar, the island known as the “Island of the Sailing Souls.”
Next, we'll continue the route through the island of Chiloé heading to the municipality of Dalcahue, where we'll go on a stroll to visit its handicraft market, its church of Nuestra Señora De Los Dolores, a typical Chilean construction that is part of the World Heritage Site.
The last stop will take place in Castro, the island's capital. Something about this last town that is sure to catch our attention is that most of its houses are painted in bright colors. You'll learn all about why on the tour! There, we will visit the San Francisco church and its handicraft market.
Finally, we'll leave the island of Chiloé behind to return to Puerto Montt, where arrival is scheduled for 12 hours after pickup.
