Tambopata Natural Reserve: 3 or 4-Day Wildlife Watching Tour
Description
Day 1
We'll pick you up at the airport in Puerto Maldonado, and head to the Peruvian town's river port to board a large boat. Everything is ready for a journey along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers!
During the trip, we'll enjoy a picnic on board while we admire the Peruvian Amazon landscapes. The trip will end at a jungle lodge, where we'll be greeted with a welcome drink.
After a well-deserved rest, we'll attend a talk given by a local naturalist on the endangered species of the Tambopata National Reserve. Afterwards, we'll have dinner at the hotel and go on an evening canoe ride to see alligators. The first day will end by returning to the hotel to rest.
Day 2
We'll get up early for breakfast and begin a 1 kilometre (0.6 mile) walk to the Tres Chimbadas Lake, one of the homes of the famous Tambopata Giant Otters.
After admiring these friendly mammals, we'll go on a short canoe trip across the lake. Then we'll have a picnic and head to the highest wildlife observation tower in the Amazon, where we'll enjoy extraordinary views from its 46-metre (150 feet) lookout point! Finally, we'll return to the hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 3
Once we have breakfast at the hotel, taking into account the time of departure of your flight, we'll take you to the Puerto Maldonado airport well in advance.
4 Day Tour with Parrot Watching
In this itinerary, during the first and third day, the same tour will be done as in the previous tour.
On the second day, we'll have an early breakfast before visiting the Tambopata parrot colpa. The colpa, a word of Quechua origin, is a red clay wall where numerous species of exotic birds with striking colours are concentrated, especially parrots, parakeets and macaws. After a break for a picnic, we'll enjoy the views from the observation tower and return to the hotel for dinner. The day will end with a short night walk through the jungle and return to the hotel to rest.
4 Day Tour with Otter & Parrot Watching
For this itinerary, on the first day, we'll take the same route as in the 3 day tour. The second day will be dedicated to watching the giant otters on Lake Cocococha and enjoying the views of the Amazon observation tower. On the third day, we'll visit the Tambopata parrot colpa.
Finally, on the fourth day, we'll have an early breakfast at the hotel and then travel to Puerto Maldonado. We'll take you to the city airport well in advance.
