Tambopata Tour Package: 7 Days
Tambopata Tour Package: 7 Days
Day 1
After picking you up from the Puerto Maldonado airport, we'll head to the river port for the canoe ride along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers. We'll enjoy a picnic on board as we discover the local fauna around the Tambopata Nature Reserve including the chestnut jacamar and the black-crowned herons.
The day will end at the accommodation in Tambopata, where we'll stay for the next 6 nights. You'll have the afternoon free. Then as the sun begins to set we'll meet up for an evening walk, to find the nocturnal animals.
The day will end returning to the hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 2
We'll have an early breakfast and as soon as the sun rises, we'll sail to the Tambopata clay lick. Here, we'll see a large array of exotic Amazonian birds, especially parrots and macaws.
After admiring these colourful birds, we'll return to the hotel for lunch and then take a short 20 minute walk to Laguna Chica. On the shores of this lake, we'll see different kinds of toucans, whose elongated beaks will show a surprising variety of colours.
Then we'll return to the hotel to have dinner and rest until the next day.
Day 3
After breakfast, we'll set off to explore the Tambopata trail forests. On this 6 kilometre (3 mikes) trekking route, we'll see the natural habitat of different types of local birds including the semi-collared Bolio and the white-winged tanager.
We'll stop for a picnic in the middle of nature, and continue the route to see other birds up close including the red-billed tanager and the red-billed toucan. We'll be back at the hotel at 4 pm, and you'll have the rest of the day free to relax or explore the surroundings.
Day 4
Make sure you have a good breakfast at the hotel because on this day we'll climb up to the highest birding tower in the Amazon. As we reach the 46 metre (150 feet) height we'll have a privileged view of the Tambopata Reserve, where you'll see how the turquoise tanagers, harpy eagles and other native birds fly over the jungle!
After lunch at the hotel, we'll walk to the Laguna Chica to see other unique birds such as the peacocks and yellow woodpeckers. A delicious dinner at the Tambopata lodge will bring this exciting day to a close.
Day 5
After a very early breakfast, we'll walk the five kilometres (3 miles) to Lake Cocococha, arriving at dawn. This will be the perfect moment to see the low flying birds such as red-bellied macaws, long-billed tropicbirds and the friendly kingfishers.
We'll stop for a picnic and then head back to the hotel arriving at 4 pm. After dinner, those who wish can join us on a very special night canoe trip... We'll go in search of the Tambopata alligators!
Day 6
We'll dedicate this sixth day entirely to exploring other areas of the trail that we haven't explored during the rest of the tour - a new opportunity to see exotic birds of Tambopata!
Day 7
After breakfast at the hotel, we'll take you to the Puerto Maldonado airport leaving you with plenty of time to catch your flight.
