Peruvian Jungle Multi-Day Tour
Discover the Peruvian Jungle
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Isla de Monos
At the scheduled time you'll be collected from your Puerto Maldonado hotel and will be brought to the banks of the Tambopata River. Two hours later your mode of transport will change from a 4x4 to a boat that'll take you to the hotel where you'll spend the first night.
You'll arrive at the hotel and once all the luggage has been dropped off the group will reconvene for lunch. That evening, you'll be brought to Isla Rolling (Rolling Island), more commonly known as Isla de los Monos (Monkey Island), a rescue centre set up to protect endangered species of primates, which are then later placed back into their natural habitats.
Once you've arrived at the shelter, you'll quickly become acquainted with the species of monkeys that live on Isla Rolling, learning all about the peculiarities of every species and the daily care they receive. You'll also have the chance to feed them! Without a doubt, it'll be an unforgettable experience.
Once the Isla de los Monos has been visited, you'll return to your accommodation. After, you'll go on the hunt for white caymans that live in the Madre de Dios River. If luck is on your side, you may even see the world's largest rodent, the capibara.
Finally, you'll return to your lodge, where you'll eat dinner and rest until the following day.
Day 2: Lake Sandoval – Puerto Maldonado
Breakfast will be eaten in the hotel, and after you'll be brought on a trek through the Tambopata tropical jungle until you reach Lake Sandoval, one of the biggest lakes in the reserve and famous for its ideal habitat for piranhas.
You'll navigate your way around Lake Sandoval in order to learn about the flora and fauna of the area. During the boat ride, you'll be able to see many species of animals, like cormorants, herons, pumas, monkeys, sloths and giant nutria.
After the boat ride on Lake Sandoval, you'll return to your hotel to eat. With your energy levels back up again, you'll return to Port Maldonado, where the trip will end late in the evening.
3-day tour
If you would like to extend your experience in the Peruvian jungle, you can book the 3-day tour option. In this case, the second day would be replaced with a nighttime hike in order to continue learning about the diversity of insects, amphibians, reptiles and other nocturnal animals that call the jungle home.
On the third day, at the break of dawn, you'll be brought on a Tambopata Canopy Walkway, an experience in which you can observe all that the jungle has to offer from its highest point, 30 metres above the ground. Moreover, you'll get to take advantage of the most beautiful views of the Madre de Dios river, as well as being surrounded by the many birds that inhabit the jungle, like toucans, macaws, tangaras and oropendolas.
After, you'll return to your hotel to have breakfast. Once your belly has been filled, you'll be taken back to Puerto Maldonado, where the trip will come to a delicious lunch.
