Inkaterra Ecological Reserve 3 or 4-Day Tour
Description
Day 1
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Maldonado. We can also pick you up from the airport or the bus station in the city. We'll then travel 45 minutes by boat to the lodge where we'll be staying on the banks of the Madre de Dios River and very close to the Tambopata National Reserve.
Upon arrival, you'll be able to settle into the cabins before we begin to discover this fascinating natural environment acquired for science and nature lovers to enjoy a unique experience in the Peruvian Amazon. We'll first walk along the trails of the virgin tropical rainforest surrounding the reserve.
Giant tree roots, more than 500 species of birds, 300 species of ants and more than 100 species of mammals inhabit the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve. It'll be a walk full of learning!
Afterwards, we'll return to the lodge and enjoy a full lunch. In the evening, we'll approach the banks of the Madre de Dios River and take a boat ride in search of the wildlife that lives in the darkness. The guide will tell us all the interesting facts about this nocturnal natural world.
The day will end after we head back to the hotel for dinner.
Day 2
Rise and shine! We'll have breakfast at the hotel and head to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a bridge system designed specifically for scientific research. Thanks to the walkway, we'll get to see the rainforest from its highest point as we walk along the observation platforms. It'll be an unforgettable experience!
Afterwards, we'll go back to the reserve for lunch. With our batteries recharged, we'll get on a boat to sail around the river island. On this trip, we'll admire the contrast of the vegetation in a transitory forest. The sandbanks and wetlands are home to numerous species of birds, such as the Amazonian umbrellabird.
We'll return to the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve in the late afternoon for dinner. Finally, when night has fallen, we'll take a night walk to discover the strange species that live in the forest.
Day 3
It's time to say goodbye! After breakfast, we'll take you back to Puerto Maldonado.
4-day tour
If you want to expand your experience in the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve, we recommend booking the 4-day tour. In this case, on the third day, after enjoying breakfast, we'll continue exploring the great biodiversity of the area.
To do so, we'll walk along the walkways that surround the swampy forests called aguajales. We'll also visit the organic vegetable garden where we'll see the tropical plants of the Amazon forest up-close. Did you know about the medicinal properties of plants and how they're farmed? You won't stop learning!
Later, we'll explore the 30-hectare Palmetum, a place with 19 species of Amazonian palm trees in a space dedicated to the restoration and conservation of the environment. We'll refuel with a delicious lunch in the reserve. At sunset, we'll take another night walk to continue learning about the life of the animals.
On the 4th day, we'll have breakfast before taking you back to Puerto Maldonado.
