On this 5-day tour of the Tambopata National Reserve, you'll discover the incredible flora and fauna of the Peruvian jungle. Moreover, you'll take part in a number of adventure activities like kayaking and ziplining

What to Expect

Day 1

We'll pick you up from the Puerto Maldonado airport, the bus station or your hotel, and from there, we'll make our way to the river port of the town to hop aboard a boat that'll bring us to the Tambopata National Reserve. We'll then navigate our way on the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, and after an unforgettable journey, we'll arrive at our accommodation, where we'll spend the next few days.

Once you've been shown your bedrooms, we'll have a delicious lunch. With our bellies filled, we'll then take part in our first activity of the day, visiting Isla Rolling (Rolling Island), also known as Monkey Island. This rescue centre was created to care for and reintegrate primates in vulnerable states, back into their natural habitat.

We'll learn about all the species of monkeys that live on the island and understand the characteristics of various species. Moreover, you'll also be able to interact with them and feed them. You'll love it!

Then, we'll return to our accommodation and when night falls, take a hike around the surrounding area and go in search of the white caymans that inhabit the banks of the Madre de Dios river. Keep your eyes peeled! If we're lucky we might also spot the capibara, the world's largest rodent species.

The day will end at the hotel as we enjoy our dinner.

Day 2

We'll enjoy breakfast at the hotel, and after, we'll set off on a 3-kilometer hike through the tropical rainforest towards Lake Sandoval, one of the biggest lakes in the Tambipata National Reserve. This lake is famous for being inhabited by piranhas.

As we hop onto a boat and tour around the lake, we'll admire the different species of animals that live in its surroundings. So keep your eyes peeled for animals like jacanas, puma heron, gallinazos, cotomono, monkey friar, black machin, pichicos and sloths. Plus, if we're lucky and the weather conditions are favorable, we may spot some alligators or a family of endangered giant otters, which can measure more than 4 meters (13 feet)!

After, we'll return to our accommodation to rest and regain our strength with some lunch. That night, we'll take part in a nighttime hike and see the great diversity of nocturnal animals that live in the Tambopata National Reserve.

The day will finish off with dinner in the hotel.

We will end the day with dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

It'll be our turn to get up early on the 3rd day! We'll get up at the break of dawn and take a short tour on the Canopy Walk-Way, a series of footbridges that hang 30 metres (98 feet) above the ground. From this privileged vantage point, we'll see Peruvian nature at its very best!

From the platforms, we'll also be able to see numerous species of birds such as tucans, macaws, tangaras and oropendolas. It'll be incredible! After this experience, we'll return to our accommodation to have breakfast and fill our bellies for the next adventure.

Do you want to continue seeing the Tambopata National Reserve from high above? Next, we'll head to the zipline circuit, where we'll fly over the jungle's trees at over 30 metres (98 feet) above the ground. Let the adrenaline flow! After, we'll return to the hotel once more to eat.

During the evening, we'll join a kayak tour on the Madre de Dios river, during which we'll be able to enjoy a magical sunset to put an end to the day. Plus, we'll try our hand at fishing in the river!

The 3rd day will end with dinner and relaxation at the hotel.

Day 4

First thing in the morning, we hop on a boat to head to the parrot clay lick. It's where all the action is – those clay walls attract tons of colorful birds looking for a morning snack!

After snapping some pics of the parrots, parakeets, and macaws doing their thing, we'll cruise back to the lodge for a hearty breakfast.

In the afternoon, we're off to hang with an indigenous family. They'll show us their daily routines and share some ancient customs. It's gonna be a real eye-opener!

Wrapping up the day, we'll head back to our accommodation for a good dinner and some chill time to gear up for whatever's in store tomorrow.

Day 5

The adventure comes to an end. We will have breakfast at the lodge and we'll start our trip back to Puerto Maldonado around 8 am to take you to the airport of Puerto Maldonado, the bus station or the hotel you have booked. See you next time!
