Day Trip Details

After picking you up at the scheduled time at your hotel in Puerto Madryn, we'll head to the Valdes Peninsula nature conservation area.

First, we'll make a stop so that you can pay the entrance fee to enter the reserve. Then, we'll continue to the Carlos Ameghino isthmus visitor center: the narrow strip of land (barely 6 kilometers/3.7 miles wide) that joins the continental territory of the Argentine province of Chubut and the Valdés Peninsula. After this first stop, which will give us a first glimpse of the local plant and wildlife, we'll move on to the village of Puerto Pirámides. Here, between June 15 and December 15, you can take an optional boat trip to go whale watching.

Those who do not opt for the boat ride will have free time in Puerto Pirámides. Next, we'll go to Caleta Valdés, where, depending on the season, we'll make up to three stops. The first will take place in the cove itself, where we'll see how the sea traces the entrance of the Valdés Peninsula inlet. The second will be at Punta Cantor, where we'll get to see elephant seals and sea lions throughout the year. The third will be at the penguin colony, where from September to April we'll be able to see the Magellanic penguins. There is also the possibility, if the weather is favorable, that we'll see killer whales.

Then the tour will take us to a place where we can observe guanacos, choiques, maras, hares, foxes, and armadillos as we move to Punta Norte. Here, from September to December, we will see elephant seals. From December to May, we'll observe a colony of sea lions. We'll also be able to see killer whales if conditions are favorable.

Finally, you'll be able to have lunch on your own in the area before we return to Puerto Madryn. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled 10 hours after pickup.
