Gaiman Trip
Gaiman Trip
After setting off from your hotel, our first stop is Punta Cuevas, one of the first settlements of the Welsh colony in the Argentine province of Chubut.
To learn the reasons behind Welsh emigration to Argentina, and how the community has evolved over time, we will head to Gaiman. This town is home to the largest proportion of Welsh descendants in the country and is seen as the central focus for their community in Argentina. Here, on the banks of the Chubut River, we will visit the first Welsh house. This British style building was constructed in 1874.
We continue discovering the town's past by visiting the Regional Historical Museum which is housed in an old train station. You can also find evidence of the Welsh legacy in the railway tunnel and the old chapel which were constructed when the settlers first arrived from the other side of the Atlantic at the end of the 19th century.
Finally, we will head to a traditional teahouse so that you can take tea and biscuits just like an authentic Welshman. At the end of the tour, we will take you back to your hotel in Puerto Madryn.
