Activity Details

At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Madryn and head to Valdés Peninsula, declared a World Heritage Site.

After a 1-hour road trip, we'll reach Puerto Pirámides, where you can go on a boat ride with southern right whale-watching on your own. You'll observe these cetaceans up close, as they tend to reach the coastline of the Valdés Peninsula in search of crustaceans to feed.

Then, we'll head to the Estancia San Lorenzo (San Lorenzo Ranch), famous for its colony of Magellanic penguins. We'll learn about the behavior of these animals, what they feed on, and their characteristics as we embark on a 9.3-mile (1.5-kilometerhike through the penguin colony of Estancia San Lorenzo accompanied by our guide. Once the route through the penguin colony is finished, you will have 1 hour free to have lunch at the ranch.

After lunch, we'll continue the tour by truck through the Valdés Peninsula in the Punta Norte area. Depending on the season, you can spot fur seals, southern elephant seals, and occasionally killer whales.

Once we've visited the Punta Norte area, we'll head to the Carlos Ameghino Interpretation Center, where we'll continue learning about the fauna and flora of the Valdés Peninsula in-depth. Finally, we'll start our journey back to your hotel in Puerto Madryn, where we'll conclude this 10-hour day trip.

Animal Spotting

Valdés Peninsula is one of the best places in Argentina to see Magellanic penguins, Atlantic killer whales, and southern whales. However, animals are unpredictable, and the number you will see depends on various factors such as the weather and the reproduction and breeding times of the different species.
