Ayampe River Birdwatching Tour
Ayampe River Birdwatching Tour
After meeting in Puerto López or Montañita at the indicated time, we'll head towards the Ecuadorian jungle to begin this birdwatching experience on the Ayampe River. Let's go!
Following a 20 to 40-minute trip to the Ayampe River, located 15 kilometers north of Machalilla National Park, we'll begin a leisurely walk along the river bank.
The Ayampe River, besides providing fresh water to the canton, is a strategic area for birdwatching. It's home to a whopping 328 species! Some of them are endemic to Ecuador and the Tumbesian region, such as the Esmeraldas woodstar, which can be seen from December to March.
During the route, we'll take a break for breakfast consisting of coffee or other hot beverages, fruit and vegetable sandwiches with cheese.
Then, we'll continue the tour, keeping a lookout for species such as the collared araçari, Ecuadorian trogons, gray-backed hawks, great white herons and pelicans. We'll learn all about their peculiarities along the way.
Finally, after four to four and a half hours, we'll say goodbye at the meeting point to conclude the activity.
