Santa Catarina Juquila Private Day Trip
At 7 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Escondido and drive to Santa Catarina Juquila. Our drive to this Pueblo Magico (Magic Town), which is one of Oaxaca's most important pilgrimage sites, should take about 2 hours.
Once we've arrived, we'll visit the Immaculate Shrine of Our Lady of Juquila. This temple was built between the 18th and 19th centuries and is characterised by the two towers flanking the façade, as well as its large half-orange dome. Inside, we'll find Our Lady of Juquila, who is the state of Oaxaca's second patron saint. During our trip, you'll learn about the miracle that made her one of Mexico's most venerated figures.
Afterwards, we'll go to the municipal market, where you'll see all kinds of handicrafts, traditional regional products and images of the Virgen Mary. You'll then have 45 minutes of free time to have lunch at the market or in a local restaurant.
Once you've had some lunch we'll head to Our Lady of Juquila Pedimiento, where you'll be able to observe the congregation and their deeply rooted traditions. You'll also see a large number of people making their wishes, which are represented in clay figures.
We'll then take you back to your hotel in Puerto Escondido at 5:30 pm.
