On this excursion to Cholula from Puebla, we'll explore one of the oldest sites in Mexico and discover the history of a famous handicraft technique by visiting a Talavera pottery factory!
Cholula & Talavera Factory Tour
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Puebla to go to the archaeological site of Cholula, one of the oldest archaeological sites in Mexico.
We'll take a 2-hour tour of this complex, which houses the largest pyramid in Mesoamerica. Did you know that, according to experts, it's even larger than the pyramid of Giza, in Egypt?
Although the Great Pyramid of Cholula hasn't been fully excavated, we'll explore the parts that are accessible. We'll see the Patio of the Altars, which is located on one side and owes its name to three mysterious altars placed symmetrically. Then, we'll climb to the top of the pyramid, where the 16th-century Church of Los Remedios is located.
After the visit to Cholula, we'll stop at the Church of Santa Maria Tonantzintla, which is characterized by its displays of popular baroque art. Next, we'll visit the Church of San Francisco Acatepec, which stands out for its façade of ceramic mosaics and red brick.
To put the finishing touch on this excursion, we'll tour a Talavera pottery factory. We'll learn about its history and see pots, plates, paintings, and other pieces made with this artisan technique!
Finally, we'll return to your hotel in Puebla, where we'll say our goodbyes 5-6 hours after initial pickup.
