Monte Tchota and Pico de Antonia Hike
At the time indicated, we'll pick you up from your hotel in the capital of Cape Verde before heading to Rui Vaz. At this picturesque mountain village, located at the foot of a valley, we'll start our amazing hike through the interior of Santiago island. Remember to bring your camera to capture a permanent memory of these beautiful natural landscapes!
We'll make the first stop at a cheese factory, where we'll learn how these products are made. The 4-hour route will take us to the highest points of Santiago island. The first peak we ascend is the 2600 ft Mount Tchota, home to one of the most beautiful Natural Parks in Cape Verde.
At the top of the mountain, we'll encounter a unique microclimate, which is notable for being one of the coolest on the island. We'll also tell you all about the native fauna and the high biodiversity of these slopes. We then continue the trekking route through Santiago by climbing up to the summit of Pico de Antonia, located at 4500 feet high.
From the top of the highest peak on the island, we'll enjoy excellent panoramic views of San Jorge Valley. If the day is clear, we'll also spot the islands of Maio and Fogo on the horizon.
As we take in the landscapes, we'll enjoy a delicious picnic lunch on the summit of Pico de Antonia. After lunch, we'll walk back to the original starting point in Ruiz Vaz before driving back to Praia. We'll arrive back at your hotel after a total of 7.5 hours.
