Popularly known as The City of Silver, Kutná Hora is a fascinating 13-century mining town in the region of Bohemia. Set off on a half-day trip from Prague to this UNESCO-listed city, accompanied by an English-speaking guide.
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Na Příkopě 23 in central Prague. From there, we'll hop aboard a bus and set off on the 1-hour drive to Kutná Hora. Did you know that the city's rich history and iconic landmarks made it a UNESCO World Heritage Sites?
Also known as the “City of Silver”, this beautifully preserved medieval city was once one of the richest sources of silver in Europe. At its peak, in the late 13th century, Kutná Hora produced a third of the total production of silver in Europe.
First, we'll visit the Sedlec Ossuary, or the 'bone church'. This small, Roman Catholic chapel dates back to the 14th century and is adorned with 40,000 human skeletons, incredibly arranged into a giant chandelier, the Schwarzenberg family coat of arms, and other interesting shapes. Don't forget to bring your camera!
As we continue, we'll visit more of the most important monuments in the historic centre, including the Cathedral of St Barbara, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.
Next, we'll stroll through the streets lined with beautiful town houses, where we'll see Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. We'll also admire the impressive 15th-century stone fountain! After this walk, you'll have an hour of free time to grab a bite to eat or continue exploring the city at your own pace.
Finally, after meeting back up, we'll head back to Prague and say our goodbyes at the meeting point, where we'll arrive after a total of 6.5 hours.
