Villa de Merlo and La Toma Day Trip
Villa de Merlo and La Toma Day Trip
At 7:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Potrero de los Funes and head to La Toma.
In this small town in the Argentinean province of San Luis, we'll visit the museum and workshop dedicated to onyx marble crafts, where we'll see how this precious mineral is worked. The techniques, all manual, have been passed on from generation to generation for centuries.
From La Toma, we'll continue the excursion through the Conlara Valley. At the foot of this valley, one of the most beautiful in the province, is Villa de Merlo. There we'll explore and visit the Rincón and Rincón del Este neighbourhoods, the best places to see the Mogote Bayo Provincial Nature Reserve.
The panoramic tour will continue on to the Dos Venados Casino, whose entrance houses a peculiar sundial. We'll then move on to the outskirts of Villa de Merlo to visit the Piedra Blanca sites, the birthplace of the poet Antonio Esteban Agüero. In this area we'll also see the "algarrobo abuelo", the oldest carob tree in the province of San Luis.
After learning about the history of this legendary tree we'll return to the historic centre of Villa de Merlo, where you'll have one hour free for lunch. After lunch we'll return to your hotel in Potrero de los Funes, where we'll arrive at 4:30 pm.
