Tour of the National Mint of Bolivia
Tour of the National Mint of Bolivia
We'll meet at the time of your choice in front of the National Mint of Bolivia, a place that marked the history of Bolivia and the Spanish Empire.
When we enter the building, we'll immediately be impressed by its majestic entrance cloister. Did you know that this is only one of the 5 courtyards of the National Mint of Bolivia? We'll also be greeted by a giant mask with a mocking smile located above the arcades of the courtyard. Join us to find out who it is and why they have such an ironic expression!
While exploring the different rooms, we'll learn about the great importance of this institution during the viceregal era, when the Villa Imperial de Potosí became one of the richest cities in the world.
The museum exhibits paintings, numismatic collections, smelting furnaces, and machines from different centuries that were used to mint these valuable coins. We'll see examples of reales (old Spanish coins), marks, and gold and silver coins.
At the end of the tour, we'll visit the gift store, where you can purchase a piece of brass, copper, or silver as a souvenir, or even stamp your own coin!
After an hour and a half tour, we'll say our goodbyes at the exit of the museum.
