Santa Teresa Convent Guided Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet up on Calle Ayacucho. From here, we'll walk to one of the most striking religious complexes in Potosí. Welcome to the Santa Teresa Convent!
This monastery was founded in 1685 by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites in honour of Saint Teresa of Avila. In 1976, the community of nuns moved to a more modern building annexed to the convent. The convent then became a museum of religious art that's now considered to house one of the most important collections in Latin America.
During our guided tour of the Santa Teresa Convent we'll visit the main church and the Hermitage of the Immaculate Conception. These two places serve as a spiritual retreat for newly professed nuns and also house beautiful, Baroque altarpieces.
We'll then visit the different rooms in the convent's museum of religious art. These will include the Sala de la Virgen Niña, which exhibits textiles and embroidery made by the sisters, as well as the Sala de los Clásicos and the Sala del Belén.
Next, we'll head to the convent's courtyards to see the small gardens where the Carmelites used to carry out agricultural work.
After a 2-hour tour, we'll say our goodbyes at the museum's exit.
