Potosi Mines Tour + Thuru Museum
Potosi Mines Tour + Thuru Museum
At the chosen time we'll meet in front of the Casa de la Moneda to begin this tour of the exterior of the Potosí mines. Ideal for those who prefer not to go into the tunnels and instead delve into the history and workings of the mines from the outside!
First of all, we'll visit the mining market, where we'll see what products are used in the mines, such as nitroglycerine. Afterwards, we'll go to the chemical laboratory, where the selection of minerals is carried out, and at the exit we'll go to a viewpoint where we'll have a panoramic view of Potosí.
We'll then see the exterior of the Candelaria and Rosario mines and take the opportunity to learn about the importance of these deposits since colonial times. Did you know that 80% of the world's silver comes from this mountain, Cerro Rico? In English it translates to 'Rich Mountain' - you can understand why!
The last stop on the itinerary is the Thuru Museum, named after an invention that has been in operation since colonial times and is used for the refining of minerals. After admiring this artefact, we'll move on to the exhibition, where we'll see collections of minerals and samples of mining work material from colonial times.
Finally, we'll return to Potosí, where we'll arrive three to four hours after departure.
