Potosí Mines Tour
Potosí Mines Tour
When booking, you can choose two different options. Both begin and end on Ayacucho Street, in the center of Potosí:
Kunty Mine Tour
If you choose this option, we will take you to one of the most famous modern mines in Potosí. After a 20-minute drive we arrive at Cerro Chico, where the Kunty mine is located.
We will enter the gallery to visit one of its levels and discover everything related to the mining culture. Do you know who El Tío is? We will talk about this deity that usually appears surrounded by alcohol, tobacco or coca leaves. You can take photos of the mining wagons before returning to the minibus that will take us back to the starting point.
Candelaria Mine Tour
Even older and more traditional among the Cerro Rico mines, is the Candelaria mine, which dates back to the seventeenth century - approximately 20 minutes away.
First, the tour visits a small mining museum, a perfect place to learn more about the profession and understand the day to day life of the miners. We'll learn about what they eat, what schedule is, and what tools they use, including the coca leaves they ingest to withstand the altitude.
We will tour the galleries for two hours, discovering the offerings of an ancient ritual and admiring how the tunnels interconnect with each other. Then we'll return to the surface via the Rosario mine, before heading back to the starting point in the vehicle.
