Kari Kari Lagoons Hike
Kari Kari Lagoons Hike
We'll meet at 8.45 am at Ayacucho Street in Potosí, to begin this hiking route. We'll board a bus that will take us out of the city centre, as we discover how the architecture takes on a pre-colonial feel as we approach the mountains.
Along the way, we'll also see the outside of the refining plants for the minerals extracted from the mines.
On arrival, we'll start a fifteen minute ascending route until we reach the Kari Kari lagoons: San Ildefonso, Chalviri, San Rafael and San Pablo. Did you know that they were built in the 16th century?
You'll enjoy the incredible views of the slopes, including the famous Cerro Rico, and you will come into contact with the Andean flora and fauna. We'll continue walking until we reach the top of the mountain, situated at an altitude of 5000 kilometres.
We'll then take a break to enjoy a picnic lunch at the Apacheta viewpoint and start the descent of the mountain, from the top you'll get one of the best panoramic views of Potosi!
When we reach the point where the route started, the transport will pick us up to return to Potosí. The tour will end at the starting point at 4 pm.
Add an extra day
With this option, once we reach the top of the mountain, we'll settle here for dinner and spend the night in the home of a traditional Apacheta family, experiencing first-hand their simple way of life. Dinner will consist of soup and a main course. The next morning, we'll rise at dawn for breakfast and continue our hike to the Chaqui hot springs.
We'll enjoy the therapeutic waters and have a two-course lunch before taking the transport back to Potosi, to the place where the tour started. Arrival is scheduled for 3 pm.
