Free Walking Tour of Potosí
Free Walking Tour of Potosí
At the scheduled time, we'll meet in front of the Casa de la Moneda and start our free walking tour of Potosí. This building is the National Mint of Bolivia and is one of the most iconic buildings in the country. We'll begin by observing the façade of this famous institution while discussing the history of the most important mint in the Americas during the viceroyalty.
Afterwards, we'll explore the streets of the Villa Imperial and pass by religious buildings such as the churches of San Lorenzo and San Bernardo. Almost all of the city's religious buildings were built during the colonial period when the city was at the height of its wealth.
We'll then stroll along the streets where conquistadors and viceroys once walked, such as Passage of Heroes and the Street of Caesars. When we get to La Paz Street, we'll head into one of its buildings. This building is a charming hotel with a viewpoint from which we'll see incredible views of Potosí. After we've taken lots of photos, we'll head to the house of Francisco Rocha, who was one of the city's most famous coin forgers.
Next, we'll visit the viewpoint of San Marcos and see the cárcamos here. These are old mills that were once used to process minerals. We'll then visit the Church of San Francisco, which is one of the city's architectural treasures.
From here, we'll move on to 10th November Square. We'll finish our free walking tour of Potosí here and say our goodbyes after 2 hours of exploring the city.
