Complete Potosí Tour
At 9 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel and set off on our complete Potosí tour. We'll spend the day visiting the main attractions of this historic city, which is also known as the Villa Imperial.
To kick off our tour, we'll take a look at the origin of Potosí's wealth and grandeur during the colonial period. This would be the mines of the Cerro Rico mountain and the mining market. The Spanish extracted large quantities of silver from these mines which contributed to the crown's wealth.
Today, minerals such as tin and zinc continue to be extracted. During our visit, we'll be able to enter these legendary mines and see the iconic figure of El Tío. According to legend, this scarlet-coloured devil protects the miners.
After seeing the mines, we'll have a delicious traditional lunch. Our lunch will include a starter, a main course and a drink.
Once we've eaten, we'll head to the National Mint of Bolivia. The construction of this building was first proposed in the 16th century by the viceroy of Peru so the silver extracted from the mines could be made into coins. This building preserves its colonial architecture and has a beautiful porticoed courtyard.
Next, we'll go to the old town and be transported back in time to the period of the viceroyalty as we stroll through the streets and discuss the key events that took place in the squares. We'll pause at San Francisco Church and head inside so you can see the sacred works of art it houses.
We'll then finish our tour and take you back to your hotel, where we'll arrive at 5 pm.
