Mysterious caves, rocky canyon landscapes and pre-Columbian remains. Come and join us on this 2-day tour around Potosi to discover all this and more!
Day 1
We'll meet at 8 am in front of the Potosí Mint. Are you ready to discover the wonders that surround this imperial town?
About 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) outside the city we'll find our first destination, a silver smelter. Here we'll learn about the mining tradition of Potosí, and we'll see machines used since colonial times for processing silver. The next stop will be the Devil's Cave, a mysterious place that hides a dark legend...
We'll then visit the Cayara hacienda and its house museum, with beautiful mural decorations. We'll also take the opportunity to see the Cayara tunnels, used for the hydroelectric plant that the owner of the 'hacienda' or estate, the Frenchman Luis Soux, financed so that Potosi could have public lighting for the first time.
After a break for lunch, we'll move on to the Chiracoro lime kilns to understand what use was made of the lime treated in their smelting furnaces. We'll end the day visiting Chocko Chocko hill, where we'll find an archaeological site. Afterwards, we'll camp at Jatun Pampa, on the banks of a river.
Day 2
After a well-deserved rest, we'll have breakfast and set off again on our journey around Potosí. We'll start the day visiting the Valley of Rocks, where we'll see fascinating geological formations and large canyons inhabited by pumas.
The next stop will be the Chiracoro waterfalls, a natural environment where we'll be able to observe the artisanal fishermen, and we'll take the opportunity to take a break and have lunch. After lunch, we'll start our return journey to Potosí, where we'll arrive at around 4 pm.
